Today was just fun. Simple, genuine, easy fun.
Ariel came down from Fort Worth to go to the Houston rodeo with me, and since I have not lived in Texas long, I figured it was about time I officially do something that makes me feel like a real Texan. I guess this was my initiation.
It was my first rodeo ever, which feels wild to even say. I have heard about it, seen the posts, watched everyone get excited every year, but this was the first time I was actually there experiencing it for myself. Ariel is a pro at this point, so I let her lead the way while I just took it all in.
We laughed a lot. Walked around. Talked about life. Just enjoyed being out and doing something different. I love first experiences because they make you feel present. You are not comparing it to last year. You are not rushing through it. You are just there.
Riley Green performed and I will say, I only like a few of his songs. Some were fun live, and the crowd was definitely into it. But “Worst Way” is still cringe to me. I cannot help it. It is just not my vibe. We laughed about it and kept enjoying the night anyway.
More than anything, today reminded me that stepping into new places and new traditions does not have to feel awkward. It can just feel exciting. I may not have grown up here, but I am here now. So I might as well lean in.
If this is part of being a Texan, I think I am off to a good start.

It makes me happy hearing you getting into learning about Texas culture and just having a good time for yourself. I’d imagine like most things, you have to be there to appreciate it.
Getting to experience something new is fun because you don’t know what to expect. Like the live music you listened to wasn’t exactly your cup of tea but the whole experience was fun and you’re glad you did it. It is nice to not have to rush or have anything to compare it to, its brand new for you and you can just experience it.
