Leave it better than you found it. It’s such a simple idea, but it says so much about the kind of person someone chooses to be. You don’t have to change the entire world to make a difference. Most of the time it comes down to the small ways you show up in everyday life.

Hold the door for someone. Put your weights back at the gym. Return your shopping cart instead of leaving it in the parking lot. Look people in the eye when you speak to them. Say thank you. Be patient even when it’s inconvenient. These seem like small things, but they say a lot about your character and the respect you have for others.

Most of life is made up of these little moments where you either make things slightly better or slightly worse. A kind word can change someone’s mood. A little patience can make someone’s stressful day easier. Respect and basic decency go further than people realize.

I’ve always believed strong people improve the environments they walk into. They make rooms calmer. They make conversations more respectful. They bring a certain level of integrity with them. Weak people tend to do the opposite. They drain the energy around them and leave things more chaotic than they found them.

Every action leaves a trace. In rooms, in routines, and in the way people feel after you walk away. Your presence always leaves a footprint whether you intend it to or not. That’s why it matters how we show up.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple. Leave people feeling respected. Leave places a little cleaner. Leave conversations a little kinder. Leave situations a little calmer.

Just leave it better than you found it. Always.

Those first seven words just really hit me hard in the best of ways; “Leave it better than you found it”.  It strikes at the core of what I believe and at the center of one of my favorite stories “A Christmas Carol”.  We have while we are here the power to make real changes in this world for the better and once were gone that power is lost to us forever.

I’m often overwhelmed when I stop to think about all those that have it so poorly off and what can be done to make even a few lives a little bit better.  While I’m here I want to not only do the absolute best I can to…
