Day 362
Have you ever noticed how much the energy of the people around you can affect your day? Some people walk into a room and bring a sense of happiness, positivity, and warmth with them. Others seem to bring tension, negativity, and unnecessary drama wherever they go.
It got me thinking about a saying we have all heard: You attract the energy you give off.
I truly believe there is something to that.
If you want kindness in your life, be kind. If you want honesty, be honest. If you want positive people around you, make sure you are bringing positivity into the lives of others. If you want genuine friendships and meaningful connections, be genuine yourself.
The energy we put into the world often influences the people and experiences we welcome into our lives. That doesn’t mean we get to control how everyone treats us, because we absolutely don’t. But we do get to control what we contribute, what we entertain, and what we allow to take up space in our lives.
I think sometimes people spend so much time focusing on what they are receiving from others that they forget to look at what they are giving. Are you encouraging people or constantly criticizing them? Are you celebrating other people’s successes or comparing yourself to them? Are you bringing peace into conversations or looking for an argument? Are you making people feel good about themselves, or leaving them feeling worse?
Those questions are worth asking ourselves.
And let’s be honest, nobody is positive every single day. We all have bad days, frustrations, disappointments, and moments when our energy isn’t where we want it to be. That’s part of being human. The goal isn’t to walk around pretending everything is wonderful. It’s to recognize when we need to reset and make a conscious effort not to let a temporary mood become the energy we consistently give to others.
I also believe we have to be mindful of who we surround ourselves with. You can have the best intentions in the world, but constantly being around negativity, jealousy, resentment, or drama can eventually start to affect you. Protecting your peace doesn’t mean thinking you’re better than anyone. It means understanding that the company you keep and the conversations you entertain can influence the person you become.
Personally, I would rather be someone who brings encouragement, laughter, kindness, and good energy into a room. I want people to feel comfortable being themselves around me. I want to celebrate others, support people, and leave interactions better than I found them.
And if someone doesn’t reciprocate that energy, that’s okay. You don’t have to become negative just because someone else is. You don’t have to match disrespect with disrespect or allow someone else’s attitude to determine yours.
At the end of the day, we cannot control everyone else’s energy, but we can take responsibility for our own.
So before pointing fingers at the energy around you, take a moment to reflect on the energy you’re putting out into the world. The kindness you give, the encouragement you offer, the respect you show, and the happiness you share all matter.
Be the energy you want to attract. Give the kindness you hope to receive. Bring the positivity you wish to see in others. And never let the negativity around you change the goodness within you.
You only get one life. Fill it with people, experiences, and energy that make it a little brighter.
Signed, Paulina.
