Day 346 blog

What you allow into your mind matters more than you realize.

I came across this quote today, and it really made me stop and think.

“If you don’t fill your mind with the Word of God, the enemy will fill it with fear, anxiety, stress, worry, and temptation.”

Think about how much of our daily battles begin in our minds.

Sometimes, it’s not even something happening around us that steals our peace. It’s the thoughts we allow to take over. It’s the constant worrying about what might happen tomorrow, replaying conversations from yesterday, questioning decisions we’ve made, or allowing fear to convince us that things won’t work out.

Before we know it, our minds become so full of everything we’re worried about that we leave very little room for peace.

And I’ve learned that what we feed our minds matters.

If we constantly fill our minds with negativity, comparison, fear, other people’s opinions, and everything that could possibly go wrong, it’s going to affect how we see ourselves, how we see our circumstances, and how we move through life.

But when we intentionally make room for God’s Word, prayer, gratitude, and truth, we give ourselves something stronger to hold onto when life gets difficult.

That doesn’t mean our problems magically disappear. It doesn’t mean we will never feel anxious, scared, overwhelmed, or uncertain. We are human, and those feelings are part of life.

But it does mean we don’t have to face those feelings without something to anchor us.

When fear tells you that you’re alone, God’s Word reminds you that He is with you.

When worry tells you that you have to figure everything out right now, faith reminds you that you can take one step at a time and trust Him with what you cannot control.

When you begin questioning your worth, you can turn back to the truth that your value was never determined by another person’s opinion of you.

And when temptation tries to pull you away from the person God is calling you to be, you can pause, pray, and choose the path that aligns with your faith and your values.

The battle for our peace often begins with what we choose to focus on.

I’ve noticed how easy it is to reach for our phones first thing in the morning. We check messages, scroll through social media, read the news, see what everyone else is doing, and immediately allow the outside world to start influencing our thoughts before we’ve even taken a moment for ourselves.

But imagine what could change if we started our mornings differently.

What if, before we gave the world access to our minds, we gave God our attention?

What if we started the day with Scripture instead of stress? Prayer instead of immediately worrying about our to-do lists? Gratitude instead of comparison?

What if we spent a few quiet minutes reminding ourselves of God’s promises before allowing the demands of the day to take over?

I’m not saying every day would suddenly become easy. But I do believe there is something powerful about beginning the day grounded in the truth rather than allowing our circumstances to determine our mindset.

Because the world will always give us something to worry about.

There will always be uncertainty. There will always be people who disappoint us, plans that change, challenges we didn’t expect, and situations we cannot control.

We cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can be intentional about what we allow to shape our thoughts and guide our responses.

And sometimes, we have to recognize when our minds are taking us somewhere we don’t need to go.

Not every thought deserves our attention. Not every fear deserves to become a prediction. Not every negative possibility deserves hours of our energy.

Sometimes we need to stop, pray, open our Bibles, and remind ourselves of what is true.

We need to remember that God has not asked us to carry tomorrow’s worries today. He has not asked us to have every answer before we take the next step. And He has not promised that we will never face hard seasons, but He has given us His presence to lean on through them.

Matthew 6:34 reminds us not to worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own concerns.

That verse is such an important reminder to me that I can spend so much time worrying about things that haven’t happened that I forget to be present for the day God has given me.

I don’t want fear to take up more space in my mind than faith does.

I don’t want worry to become louder than God’s promises.

And I don’t want to spend so much time thinking about everything that could go wrong that I miss the blessings right in front of me.

I want to be more intentional about what I consume, what I listen to, what I dwell on, and what I allow to influence my heart.

Because protecting your peace isn’t only about walking away from negative people or setting boundaries with the outside world. Sometimes it’s about setting boundaries with your own thoughts, too.

It’s about recognizing when you’re spiraling into worry and choosing to pause.

It’s about bringing your fears to God instead of letting them grow in silence.

It’s about replacing the lies that tell you you’re not enough with the truth of who God says you are.

And it’s about remembering that faith doesn’t mean you’ll never struggle. It means you have somewhere to turn when you do.

So today, I want to challenge myself and anyone reading this to be more intentional about what we’re feeding our minds.

Spend time in God’s Word, even if it’s only a few verses. Pray before you react. Give thanks before you complain. Be careful about what you allow to influence your thinking. And when fear starts getting louder, return to the truth that has carried you through difficult days before.

You don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to keep turning back to Him.

Don’t let the worries of this world take up so much space in your mind that you forget the promises of the God who holds your future.

Fill your mind with truth. Fill your heart with prayer. Make room for gratitude. And when life feels overwhelming, remember that you were never meant to carry everything alone.

The world may give you plenty of reasons to be afraid, but you can choose to build your life on faith instead of fear.

Today, let’s give God more of our attention than we give our worries.

Signed, Paulina.
