Day 350
There is something beautiful about reaching a place in life where your gratitude for God is no longer dependent on everything going the way you planned.
It is easy to thank God when prayers are answered, doors open, opportunities come together, and life feels like it is finally falling into place. It is easy to recognize His goodness when you can see exactly what He is doing and understand why things are happening the way they are.
But I think real faith shows itself in the moments when life looks different from what you expected. When you are waiting for answers, when something does not work out, when you are walking through uncertainty, or when you are trusting God with something you cannot control.
Can you still be thankful? Can you still recognize His goodness when you do not have all the answers? Can you still praise Him while you are waiting for the breakthrough?
I believe that is where gratitude becomes something deeper than a feeling. It becomes a choice, a perspective, and a reflection of your faith.
A grateful heart does not mean life is perfect. It means you recognize that God is still good, even when life is not going according to plan.
Lately, I have been reminded of how important it is to slow down and appreciate what is already in front of me. Sometimes, we become so focused on what we are praying for, what we are waiting on, or what we want to accomplish next that we forget to thank God for what He has already done.
We pray for opportunities and then become consumed with the next opportunity. We ask for direction and then become impatient when the answer does not come on our timeline. We pray for peace but allow our circumstances to determine whether we experience it.
I think there is something powerful about learning to trust God without needing every detail explained first.
Not every season will make sense while you are living through it. Not every prayer will be answered in the way you imagined. Not every closed door will immediately reveal why it needed to close. But we can still choose to approach each day with gratitude, knowing that our understanding is limited and God’s perspective is greater than our own.
Gratitude is not reserved for the moments when we receive what we want. It is remembering God in the ordinary moments, turning to Him in the difficult ones, and acknowledging His presence even when we are still waiting for clarity.
Sometimes, the greatest blessings are not the big, obvious moments. They are the quiet mornings, the people who love us, the strength to keep going, the peace that comes after prayer, and the opportunities to begin again. They are the things we can easily overlook when we are too busy focusing on everything we think is missing.
I never want to become so focused on what I am asking God for that I forget to thank Him for what I already have.
I also believe gratitude changes the way we move through life. It reminds us that we do not have to compare our journey to someone else’s. We do not have to rush God’s timing because someone else seems to be further ahead. We do not have to live in constant worry about the future when we can be faithful with what He has placed in our hands today.
There is a difference between trusting God only when things work out and trusting Him because you know your life is in His hands.
And that is the kind of faith I want to continue building. A faith that is not dependent on convenience. A heart that remains thankful through both the blessings and the lessons. A perspective that allows me to appreciate the present without constantly worrying about what comes next.
That does not mean pretending difficult things do not hurt or that we should never feel disappointed. We are human. We have emotions, questions, and moments when we struggle. Gratitude simply reminds us that even in those moments, there is still something to hold on to, someone to turn to, and a reason to keep trusting.
So today, I want to remember to thank God for the answered prayers and the unanswered ones. For the doors He has opened and the ones He has closed. For the opportunities I understand and the situations that are still teaching me patience. For the people He has placed in my life and the wisdom that comes from learning when to let go.
Most importantly, I want to thank Him not just for what He does for me, but for who He is.
A grateful heart can find reasons to praise God in every season, even when it cannot yet see the purpose of that season.
I do not need to have everything figured out to be thankful. I do not need every prayer answered today to trust Him tomorrow. And I do not need my circumstances to be perfect to recognize the blessings that already surround me.
I simply need to keep my heart open, my faith strong, and my eyes focused on the One who has never asked me to carry the future alone.
Whatever season you find yourself in today, take a moment to thank God. Not just for what you hope He will do, but for where you are, how far you have come, and the strength He continues to give you.
Let gratitude be part of your everyday life, not just a response to good news.
Because even when circumstances change, our reasons to trust God do not have to.
Signed, Paulina.
